Abdur Rashid Kardar’s audition pics with two ladies in the 1950 by Life Magazine lensman has gone viral on the internet. James Burke had captured Kardar’s Hindi film Dil-e-Nadaan audition back in the ’50s.These images are from the famous Kardar-Kolynos Acting Hunt – a contest to find two new heroines for his upcoming movie. Peace Kanwal and Chand Usmaani were declared the winners and these pictures were taken during the finalists screen test. Contrary to rumours doing rounds this was no incident of casting couch. Here take a lookKardar was an actor himself who turned a producer and moved from Lahore to India in the 1930s. In the 1940s he turned into production and started the Kardar studios and began making films under the Kardar Productions banner. He is best known for films like Baaghban, Dillagi and Dastan.
Considering that Bollywood auditions are looked at with suspicion and are often associated with casting couch, these inside pictures from the past became much talked about as they came out over six decades later.
