Schools in Janakapur that have remained closed for the past four months due to ongoing agitation by the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM) are resuming classes from Thursday.Earlier, schools here reopened for a brief time following green signal from the SLMM. But again they were closed due to objections from students’ union affiliated with Sharat Singh Bhandari-led Rastriya Madesh Samajbadi Party.
A joint meeting among the agitating students’ union, Higher Secondary School Association, Public and Private Boarding School Organisation of Nepal, National Private and Boarding School Association of Nepal and the Progressive Madhesi Society on Wednesday ended with the agreement on reopening the closed schools.
Besides, as per the agreement, schools will exempt tuition fees for the closed duration, but will have to pay the teachers, according to society Chair Surendra Yadav.
