The government agencies and concerned development partners working in renewable and alternative energy technologies should come up with solutions that are feasible and easily accessible to general public to mitigate the energy crisis in the country, Magar added. The meeting was part of the collaborative project entitled “Feasibility Study of the Most Appropriate Alternative Energy Technologies in Diversified Ecological Zones of Nepal” being implemented by the National Academy of Science and Technology (Nast) and Chonbuk National University with the funding from Korea International Cooperation Agency (Koica). Minister Magar also urged Nast to work on innovation and research to promote the use of different alternative and renewable energy technologies that could benefit household as well as commercial sector. “The promotion of solar and wind energy could play an important role in helping people facing acute energy crisis in their day-to-day life,” Magar said. Nast Vice-chancellor Jiba Raj Pokharel expressed concern over the brain drain of young researchers and scientists in lack of favourable working environment. “We can work effectively in research and development activities on renewable and alternative energy sector if the government mobilises adequate and timely funding in science and technology sector,” Pokharel said.
